Thought-provoking in the extreme

The phrase that keeps coming up when I talk with friends about this book is: thought-provoking. I was fully prepared to be disappointed with this book when I realized it was the author's first effort. Halfway through the second chapter, I was hooked. I am not seeing this as a "how-to" book, but there is some of that at a certain level. What this book did for me was to really get my wheels turning as we see three main characters step through a nightmare scenario. Each of the three have a different level of preparedness and each bring a different mindset to the situation. That mindset will largely determine their fate. On a macro-level, I am re-evaluating the way I have prioritized some things. On a micro-level, this book has motivated me to assemble a car kit for my daughter.
Regarding the story being told in the second-person. Yeah, it's different; but that is a stylistic approach that the author chose for a reason. Once I noted that each chapter heading indicated who was speaking, any issues with that style were resolved.
This book may not be the most polished piece of literature extant, but it will get you thinking, and hopefully, moving in the right direction. Get it. Read it.

Excellent novel for this author. I can't wait for the second installment!

I met Jeff and bought his book when I attended a local homesteading and preparedness expo. I am a dedicated fan of the disaster, prepper, and survival genre. As I am reading books, especially first-time-author books, I am greatly disturbed by spelling and grammatical errors. If there are enough errors, the book doesn't get read. What a pleasant surprise to find a first time author book that is such a delightful experience. Yes, there is tension and disturbing situations related in the book, but it also has very real, very useful information that might save your life. It isn't often that I read books in this genre where I take notes as I read the book! God forbid that we should ever need this preparedness, but like the male character says, being prepared is not unlike having life insurance, or auto insurance.
It is very much appreciated that Jeff Motes has included a strong female character. In some parts she seems a little wimpy to me, a little weepy, but that is based on my own personality and experience. As the story unfolds, it is the strength of the wisdom and experiences of the male character, John, that ensures their survival. In his book, Jeff relates a few times the calming effect that Jill, the female character, has on the male character's emotions. It is thusly, acting synergistically, that they are most effective.
The worst part about this book? I can't immediately download the second in this series.

Realistic and Very Well Done

Well done and a very good read. While following a common story line (Good guy vs. bad guys, finds romance, and such) the author has twists and turns that keep it fresh and interesting. The author developed the characters extremely well by making them very real people, not some sort of unrealistic super characters. The reader is drawn into the story with very realistic situations, challenges, responses, and events. The individual arms and tactics were accurate, realistic, and very well done. I enjoyed the book very much.

About the Author
Mr. T.K. Sribhashyam obtained his Master's degree in accountancy as well as in Hindu philosophy. He also received intensive lessons on yoga philosophy, and Indian psychology. Ayurveda, the Indian medical science, was another subject of study under his father, Sri T. Krishnamacharya. Since 1971, he has been transmitting his father's teachings in Europe, in French as well as in English. In 1999, the Mysore Sanskrit College conferred on him the title of Acharya for his faithful and devoted teachings of Hindu philosophy. He is the Head of all Yogakshemam schools in Europe. His book Emergence du Yoga (in French) has been recently published from France and its English translation is under preparation. Two of his books in English viz. Blissful Experience-Bhakti -- Quintessence of Indian Philosophy and From Devotion to Total Surrender-Shanagati Yoga -- In the Light of Indian Philosophy are appearing from India in 2012. He has published many articles in different yoga journals in Europe. He is an honorary life member of the International Yoga Federation and the World Yoga Council.

Mrs. Alamelu Sheshadri, second daughter of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, is graduated from Mysore University. Sri T. Krishnamacharya initiated her to Yajurveda, tought her all major Upanishads, Brahmasutras and the Bhagavad-Gita in the traditional way. He also trained her in yoga, both practically and philosophically. From 1985 until 1989 she continued studying many philosophical subjects, especially Vishishtadvaita.

A powerful book

The concept of total surrender, that is to merge one’s own will into the Divine Will, exists in all the spiritual traditions and early mystical branches of various religious beliefs of our world and is therefore not limited to Hinduism only. The essence of the concept being universal, enables the readers of various spiritual convictions to identify themselves with the topic, even though it is dealt with from the Indian philosophical point of view.

I warmly recommend this book to all those who are longing for a deeper meaning of life, independent of what religion or belief they may follow - there is space for all ! It is for all those who have realized that true happiness cannot be gained by trying to satisfy a never ending thirst for new experiences and enjoyments belonging solely to the material side of life.
Devotion is being investigated in different philosophical currents including Saivism, which occupies an entire chapter. As light is shed on various concepts in Saivism from the devotional point of view, fascinating and different aspects than those commonly described are being explained and illustrated.
The chapter concerning Ista Devata, or chosen Deity, offers the reader the opportunity to learn and understand how and why God can be approached in multiple individual ways out of which none can be considered ‘wrong’ or superior to the other.

About the Author

Mandyam (“Srini”) Srinivasan, Ph.D., is the Pilot Corporation Chair of Excellence in Business at the University of Tennessee. He is the author of Streamlined: 14 Principles for Building and Managing the Lean Supply Chain and Building Lean Supply Chains with the Theory of Constraints and is co-author of Supply Chain Management for Competitive Advantage and Global Supply Chains: Evaluating Regions on an EPIC Framework – Economy, Politics, Infrastructure, and Competence. Dr. Srinivasan has many years of experience with leading automobile manufacturing organizations and has consulted with a large number of industries. He received the 2006 Edelman Award for radically streamlining the MRO process for the Air Force’s largest transport plane, the C-5. Dr. Srinivasan has won numerous awards at the University of Tennessee for outstanding teaching, for research and creative activity, and for leadership in executive education. He is on the faculty of the Aerospace and Defense Executive MBA Program and of the Lean MRO one-week executive course at the University of Tennessee.

Melissa R. Bowers, Ph.D., is the Beaman Professor of Business at the University of Tennessee. Her research interests are in the areas of production planning and scheduling, Lean manufacturing, and supply chain optimization, and analytics. Dr. Bowers has years of experience consulting with numerous industries. She is a recipient of the Richard Sanders Award for Leadership in Executive Education and the John B. Ross Outstanding Teacher Award as well as several other College of Business teaching awards at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Bowers is on the faculty of the Aerospace and Defense Executive MBA Program and of the Lean MRO one-week executive course at the University of Tennessee.

Kenneth Gilbert, Ph.D., is the Regal Entertainment Group Professor of Business and Department Head of Statistics, Operations, and Management Science at the University of Tennessee. He holds the University of Tennessee’s Allen Keally Award for Outstanding Teaching, the Chancellors Award for Vision and Leadership in Graduate Education, and the Richard Sanders Award for Leadership in Executive Education. Dr. Gilbert is past associate editor of Naval Research Logistics and has published in numerous academic journals. He is on the faculty of the Aerospace and Defense Executive MBA Program and of the Lean MRO one-week executive course at the University of Tennessee.

This is an excellent book on MRO - covers goals, managing, tooklits, visual culture for implementation, Thoeory of Constraints and is complete with photos, figures, tables and examples.

The best book I know of about how to improve MRO operations

The title is misleading since the proposed approach is explicitly called "Lean/TOC". The book argues that it is a 1 + 1 = 3 combination. There are more pages dedicated to the Theory Of Constraints than Lean. The authors really have an in depth experience of MRO, Lean and TOC. There are several case studies included. The quality of the writing and the book layout make it easy both for an initial reading and later as a reference book. They go into the necessary detail so that readers will know how to apply these ideas in their own environment.

Quite simply the best book I know of about how to quickly and sustainably improve MRO operations.

There are some good things in this book. What really detracts for it for me is the author spends a lot of time talking about viewing your financials via throughput in stead of to incorporate Lean into an MRO.

George Ryga
In 1967, George Ryga soared to national fame with The Ecstasy of Rita Joe, which has since evolved into a modern classic. A self-proclaimed artist in resistance, Ryga takes the role of a fierce and fearless social commentator in most of his plays and his work is renowned for its vivid and thrilling theatricality. George Ryga died of stomach cancer in Summerland, BC, in 1987 and will always be remembered and cherished as one of Canada’s most prolific and powerful writers. His memory was publicly honoured at the BC Book Prizes ceremony in 1993

A play to make you think.

The play may be a rough read for some but it is well worth it. The bare humanity displayed in this play is timeless. It points the finger at the viewer (or in the case reader), who was and is today mostly a middle class clientele. It focuses on the bigger picture, which is the "white man's denial of the Indian humanity." A play most everyone can sympathize with at some point, although I do admit this is best seen and not read.

Ecstasy of Rita Joe Rough Structurally

This play, though filled with poignant messages about the state of Native Canadian societies, is very rough structurally. There are great uses of light, and the setting Ryga proposes is excellent, but the play itself is so rough and deliberate that it is a less-than-pleasant read. It was written in 1967, so though perhaps groundbreaking in its time, this play is not really one to read for enjoyment alone.

A must have for new Dom/mes

I've searched for this book for what seems like forever! It is wonderful! I have recently decided to take a live in sub and the information this book provided was absolutly invaluable. I recommend this book strongly for everyone in or interested in the Scene.

Not a Slave Training Manual like you might think it is

I had higher hopes for this book. It sells for a price quite a bit higher than some of the other books about BDSM, D/s, and training. This book is only 86 pages, and though not badly written, it's just not what you might think it is.

Page 21-22, for example, discusses one of the "Basic Forms of Service for Slaves," which "Special Skills" sub-part begins on page 21.

Book: "Any of the basic skills describe above can become the focus of a slave's training. A simple maid may become an expert in household management and advance to the position of housekeeper."
Comment: What world is the author living in?! Maid advancing to housekeeper?! I don't live in a Downton Abbey world with lots of attendants, even more, slaves. This is not a realistic issue. Fantasy? Sure. However, a "training manual" is not a good place to go for fantasy, and a training manual should be useful for the purpose. So if you buy this book thinking it's a useful training manual, it's not.

Book: Assuming the slave has taken a class or obtained some special certificate...."Copies of any certificates or transcripts from such classes should be duly added to the slave's file."
Comment: Slave's file?! I'm not keeping a file on my partner's domestic skills and certificates.

This is just one little part, yet it illustrates how the book is not going to fit with most (more than 99%?) people's reality. Where I think the book does have some value is in the fantasy of being or having a slave. It talks about collaring, punishments, positions, service attitude, and many valuable ideas. But unfortunately again, it is not really written as a book of fantasy. It is the "Slave Training Manual." It lacks any examples of couples, real or fictional, so far as I have read since receiving it yesterday. My suggestion on this book is to take your money somewhere else. I just finished "The Art of Sensual Female Dominance," and both books by Ms. Rika. These other books were better, and there are other great resources....just not this book by "Miss Abernathy."

A condensed copy of Erotic Slavehood

First, let me say I don't dislike this book because it is only 86 pages and cost me almost 40.00 dollars. What I disliked about this book is that it was only a condensed version of Erotic Slavehood which only cost me 10.00 dollars and has 223 pages.

If I had known that before I purchased the book I would have saved myself some money and put it on another book.

The information is great but don't waste your money get Erotic Slavehood which was also written by Miss Abernathy and gives you more information to help you rather you are a slave or Dominant.
