Excellent, well explained book.

I love, love, love this book, not only Joe Cartwright's work but the way he presents the information. I totally get what the artist is saying. Sometimes we just need to have the same information presented in a way we understand and for me Joe Cartwright does that. No tricks here just straightforward watercolour how to avoid mistakes or how to rectify errors. Joe only touches lightly on paper, brushes and paints which I was pleased about as there are so many books out there that cover these aspects. On this occasion I was looking for more how to and how not to and this book does exactly that. There are some well explained demonstrations. More than anything I like his explanations on why some paintings or areas of painting do not work and what aspects lifted his work to another level. I guess the book is aimed at artists who have some experience with watercolour, but I am a reasonably new watercolour painter and this book will remain close by for me to refer back to. Thanks so much Joe I am sure this will assist a lot of watercolourists.

A Plethora of Practical Information

This book is exactly what I needed to take my watercolors to the next level. It is clearly written with visual examples. I am beyond the basics, but it is always important to review them from another artist's point of view. Cartwight's loose, yet controlled, technique is exactly what I am trying to achieve. He also covers the painting subjects that interest me, landscapes, street scenes, painting water, and plein air. Painting flowers is not included. I highly recommend this book for those interested in painting in watercolors.

Wonderful discussion and demonstrations to create beautiful watercolors

This book reminds me of the technique of the watercolorist, Joesph Zbukvic. This Joe walks you through his technique for creating "atmosphere and mood" in your paintings. He has wonderful visual references on how to examine and breakdown a photograph to determine depth and color in a painting. I really appreciate that Joe starts a demonstration by showing you an actual photograph and list of supplies he will use to create a painting. He then continues the demonstration by walking you through the phases of his painting. I would highly recommend this book.

About the Author
Jonathan Bergmann believes that educators should ask one guiding question: What is best for my students in my classroom? To the best of his abilities, he has done this in his 25 years as a high school science teacher. He received the Presidential Award for Excellence for Math and Science Teaching in 2002 and was named a semifinalist for the Colorado Teacher of the Year in 2010. He is currently the lead technology facilitator for the Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth, Ill. He is the father of three teenagers and is happily married to the love of his life.

Aaron Sams has been an educator since 2000. He received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2009 and co-chaired the committee to revise the Colorado Science Academic Standards. He regularly turns off all his electronic devices to spend time with his wife and three children, and he highly recommends implementing unplugged Sundays for those who struggle to power down and spend time with the ones who matter most. Sams holds a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and a master of arts degree in education, both from Biola University, Colo. He is currently a classroom science teacher in Woodland Park, Colo.

This is a great addition to the tool box of any teacher who has flipped their classroom and a must read for those teachers who are looking to get more out of their flipped classroom! The book gives great information and then wonderful classroom examples of the flipped learning model being used in actual classrooms by actual teachers!

Aaron, thanks again for coming to Mahidol University in Thailand. I really enjoyed your presentation. It was quite useful for my own research.
When I first heard of flipped classes, I was a bit sceptical that it would work with Thai undergraduates. Your take on it made a lot more sense, and I had already been putting up video of my classes, so ....time to redo them. My students' videos are so much better, so it is making me get my act together. Glad to have your new book as a reference.

Recovering our values and our nation from thieves and traitors

A book for conservative readers. A little on the hostile side, but if you need a wake up call because you are Captain Oblivious, then this is the book for you. It is the end times, all the signs are pointing this direction. But we can save the day if we make the right choices now. Children raised by the community, that don't want to believe their parents who raised and love them. Parents turning against their disobedient selfish children. Teaching false doctrines in school. Schools not teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic, but teaching children alternative lifestyles instead.

WILL AMERICA HEED SAVAGE'S ADVICE?

“Roman civilization did not pass peacefully away. It was assassinated.” This quote is attributed to French historian and archaeologist Andre Piganiol. In his latest book, Scorched Earth: Restoring the Country after Obama, talk radio host Michael Savage alluded that things are not looking bright for America, and the state of affairs as it was before President Barack Obama will never return. Savage said Obama’s “scorched earth policies” are turning America into a Third World nation of terror, riots, mobs and chaos.

Scorched Earth: Restoring the Country after Obama by Michael Savage can roughly be divided into three distinct parts. The first part would be all the ills that have invaded America after Barack Obama took over as the forty-fourth president of United States on January 20, 2009. The second part of the book gave a detailed discussion of why Hillary Clinton should not be the next president and the danger it posed to America. And finally, what needs to be done to restore America to occupy its place of pride in the comity of nations.

Dr. Michael Savage strongly championed the case for securing America’s borders and to conduct business and vote in the same language. The author also espoused the cause for embracing a common culture. Scorched Earth: Restoring the Country after Obama is an absorbing read written in true Michael Savage signature style. Whichever side of the political divide you may be, you won’t find this book a dull read. But the big question is: Will America heed Savage's advice?

About the Author
Daniel Duffy works for Datasim, an Amsterdam-based trainer and software developer (www.datasim-component.com, www.datasim.nl). He has been working in IT since 1979 and with object-oriented technology since 1987. He received his MSc and PhD theses (in numerical analysis) from Trinity College, Dublin. His current interests are in the modelling of financial instruments using numerical methods (for example, finite difference method) and C++. He can be contacted at dduffy@datasim.nl

Utter shambles

The code is a real mess. Source files are missing, class member variables not defined, calls made to misspelled functions, basic syntax errors. Here are a few of the problems I have run into:
- Missing Source Files:: BVPmechanisms.hpp. So files like BVPSOlver.cpp can't compile
- Undefined members variables: AssocArray::contents. Can't build without it
- Basic syntax errors: (if ass2 == this). Should be if(ass2 == this)
- Incorrect function calls: standardDeviation(). Should be standardDeviation(x)

Aside from all the kindergarten errors, the author over uses templates to such an extent that simple routines are hopelessly obfuscated.

I think he built it on an old version of Visual C++. This is because the code fails to build on modern compilers with tighter error checking.

I have no idea why the other guys love this book so much, they must never have tried to build any of the examples in it ... which is weird because the whole reason I bought the book was to begin building a library of financial tools.

Nice job...

While I am somewhat rusty with C++, the author did a very nice job or bringing me along slowly. My motivation in buying this book was to learn more about instrument pricing, then programming. So in either case, I rate the book very high. I would highly recommend this to anyone on the path of becoming a Quant.
