New York City adman Lewis not only recounts the beginnings of the campaign and the U.S. launch but also documents the story of the long-term business relationship between client and agency. This 15-year saga of bottle as hero shows, first, relatively conservative ads (Absolut joy, Absolut anticipation, Absolut generosity), then segues to the by-now-expected, break-through-the-clutter commercial: the 1987 musical "holiday song" chip, a plastic record, and a packet of flower seeds. Fantastic read. Especially for aspiring ad designers

Fantastic read. Especially for aspiring ad designers. The little details on how this massive campaign became a staple of advertising are fantastic and make for a great read. I've gotten 3 copies now to give to graphic designer friends for gifts, they've all loved this book. It breaks down each design and the process of how that particular ad and concept came to be and how it relates to pop culture or the likes relative to that time period. Very inclusive.

Best coffee table book!

I love Absolut ad's and have always wanted to get one. They are expensive new , so I got an used copy from an amazon seller. It came quickly and I flipped through the book for about 20 min when it arrived 2 days later. I love all the ads and they are all so clever. I might not get some of the modern art ones, but I love the city ones in particular. Anyway, I got this book for my new house and new coffee table book, I think it is one of the best hardcover coffee table book (marketing story book) ever.

This is a terrific book, with information about how the wonderful Absolut vodka advertising campaign began. The real strength of the book is the collection of images. In some cases, looking at an entire campaign all together takes something away from the individual ads. This is not the case for these advertisements -- taken together, they are even cooler than they were in their original magazine contexts.
I just hope they will do a second volume when there are enough new ads to justify it.

A Detailed Analysis of Wittgenstein's Reaction to Moore's Proof

This is a dense and detailed analysis of Moore's "Defense of Common Sense" and "Proof of an External World", Wittgenstein's On Certainty, and the relationship between them. Given its density (and price), it almost goes without saying that this is not really for casual reading.

Moore's "Proof" has always been particularly vexing. He employs ordinary everyday judgements, e.g., "This is my hand," to establish the existence of an external world and our knowledge of that world. His argument is directed against philosophical skepticism (and also idealism). The skeptical argument is usually associated with Descartes' Meditations, in which the skeptic calls such ordinary judgements into question via "radical doubts" (e.g., "How can you tell that you aren't only dreaming right now and that in fact, you are seeing no hand in front of you?").

Moore either seems obviously right or obviously wrong. He seems "right" in so far as we want to say, "Well, OF COURSE, yes, that is your hand. We can't REALLY doubt that." And he seems "wrong" in so far as we want to say, "But of course that misses the point." The philosophical question of the existence of the external world seems obviously unsolved by a simple, everyday example -- otherwise we would have no question at all. And Moore's proof in fact seems vulnerable to Cartesian doubt.

The bulk of Coliva's book is an attempt to understand Wittgenstein's reaction and response to Moore. Wittgenstein himself provides many, sometimes apparently conflicting, directions of thought in On Certainty, and Coliva attempts to find the most consistent and most promising of those directions.

Ultimately she adopts a reading whereby Wittgenstein's disagreement with Moore links back to Wittgenstein's treatment of language. According to Wittgenstein, judgements and propositions, such as those listed by Moore in his "Defense" and "Proof," play a normative role in our practices of making claims about the external world. But those propositions themselves are not known to be true, or assumed to be true. Rather they are, as Coliva says, "hinge" propositions (leveraging an analogy from On Certainty). They provide no conventional grounding per se of our ordinary empirical judgements but rather play this normative role, as if to express the bounds of language games. Contrary to Moore's account, they are not assumed, known, or otherwise established other than through our actual use. In speaking them, if we are doing anything at all, we are trying to express the norms of our language games. Despite their apparent similarity to empirical propositions, they are, as Wittgenstein says, "grammatical" propositions -- ones that set out how we talk about the world rather than what facts the world itself contains.

Coliva goes on to discuss differences between this line of thinking in Wittgenstein and various other positions -- including one analogous to Kantian transcendental idealism (with the constitutive practices of language games swapped in for Kant's conditions of experience), epistemological foundationalism, and relativism.

It's not clear how convincing Coliva herself finds Wittgenstein's response. I doubt very much that Moore would have found it convincing. After all, there's no reason to think that Moore had in mind any sort of layer of linguistic practice (or transcendental framework) between his claim to know that "Here is a hand" and what I believe he thought of as "reality". I think he believed that his knowledge claim was correct, that it was plainly and simply a claim about his hand . . . end of story.

Wittgenstein's response leaves us feeling a bit "weird" -- what we thought was our relationship to reality was exactly what Moore seems to have thought it was. It's there, we see it, we know it, and when we talk about it, we are talking about it as it is in itself, independently of the fact or mode in which we are talking about it. But that "weirdness" may be precisely what Wittgenstein has properly given us to consider.

A great quick go-to book

This text serves well as a quick go-to guide for a broad range of neoplastic dermatopathology entities. Each section serves as a small book on the subject at hand with page numbering starting anew with each subject division. It is written in outline/bullet format for easy access to the most salient features of each disease process. While not so exhaustive as say Weedon, it is quite complete with regard to neoplastic processes and is readily approachable. The clinical and histopathologic photographs are nicely done though it may have better if some of them were a bit larger. All in all, well worth a purchase so serve as a handy reference for general pathologists and dermatopathologists alike.

Good overall book

I am using this book more and more. Although the price a little high for just neoplastic dermpath, it is a good book overall. I wish it had a few more clinical photos (with at least 5 spaces for photos in each chapter it would be nice if 1 pic was a clinical photo). I still don't like the fact that the publisher re-uses chapters from other books in the series. Possibly they could lower the price and not do this? I also don't like homer responses from "physician editors" (see below) who are on the book and probably receive profits from sales of the book.

Positives
- Plenty of histologic images. This is where this book excels over other dermpath books. There are typically multiple images of each entity covered in the chapter showing both histology, immunohistochemistry and sometimes differential diagnoses. This is very helpful compared to other dermpath books where there might be one image or no images of particular entities. Kind of works more as an atlas and quick text like one of the previous reviewers stated. Does it outweigh the negatives and justify spending $500 on both neoplastic and nonneoplastic dermatopathology? It is up to you. McKee has amazing clinical photos in addition to path and is only $450 but this book has more path photos. Most other DP books have more detailed text.
- Good coverage of neoplastic entities. These chapters are written well with solid coverage of entities including long discussions of differential diagnoses in almost all chapters (often merely a list in other books).
- Helpful Key Facts boxes that helps highlight the most important things. This would be good for quickly looking up entites during sign out and just getting a few facts on microscopic features when considering a differential during sign out.

Negatives:
-Not enough clinical photos.
- $250. This only covers neoplastic dermatopathology. If you decide to get the Nonneoplastic dermatopathology title, that is $500 total. Even McKee, Weedon, and especially Barnhill are cheaper than these 2 books combined and covers everything in one book.
- Bullet-point layout of all text. Some may view this as a positive, but I prefer to read in paragraph format.
- Repeated chapters from other books in the series. I was going to purchase the Soft Tissue book but decided to borrow it form a friend. A large number of chapters and images were taken out of the soft tissue book (edited by Fisher, Montgomery, and also Cassarino) who are both also authors on this book. The Soft Tissue book is $230. In my opinion that is a rip-off on the part of the publisher. It would be like purchasing Weedon only to find out � was borrowed from McKee. Wasn't pleased when I found that out and didn't order the Soft Tissue book in this series.

Overall - I would recommend McKee if are path trained and need clinical images. If not on a budget, I would recommend this book. If you don't need clinical images, I would recommend Weedon or Barnhill. Weedon is encyclopedic in its coverage, but you need an encyclopedic book of dermpath for those rare diagnoses that come across your scope every once in a while. Barnhill is good on both neoplastic and nonneoplastic and only costs $300. I would recommend this book for in training pathologists or general pathologists who sign out derm cases. The vast number of histologic images is very beneficial if you don't see these cases everyday.

A great companion to any general dermatopathology text

Neoplastic Dermatopathology is one of the latest additions to Amirsys series of Diagnostic Pathology. The book has multiple contributors, but the general format for each lesion discussed is similar which results in a similar style throughout. Each entity has a Key Facts Box and in outline form sections which cover terminology, etiology, clinical issues, macroscopic findings, microscopic findings, differential diagnosis, and selected references. For selected neoplasms, additonal features include radiological images, detailed immunohistochemistry, and other ancillary tests. The quality of the photomicrographs, with rare exception, are excellent and representative. Some photomicrographs would be better if enlarged. The book also has a large antibody index, and also more extensive photomicrographs for differential diagnostic considerations and expanded tables for some neoplasms. The list of neoplasms included is extensive and covers considerably more lesions than any conventional dermatopathology text. Undoubtedly there are a few missing, but with new entities described on a monthly basis, it is impossible to capture all. I do have a couple of complaints. One is the numbering of pages. Instead of just a single number, the publishers apparently insisted on a more complex format which includes a part number, section number and page number! It takes a little time to get used to this system. Also, although the selected references are more than adequate, for multi-authored references only one author is listed which is not standard. Overall, one can look at this text as companion for any of the standard dermatopathology textbooks for it expansive coverage of cutaneous neoplasms in a similar fashion to Ackerman's text as a companion for inflammatory dermatosis. I would recommend this book for both dermatopathologists and surgical pathologists.
