It is a must read for anyone who has the desire to learn more about life in general - no other book says what Hillman says here. The relevance to almost everyone's life is mind-blowing.

Norman K. Denzin is Distinguished Professor of Communications, College of Communications Scholar, and Research Professor of Communications, Sociology, and Humanities at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Denzin is the author or editor of more than two dozen books, including Indians on Display; Custer on Canvas; The Qualitative Manifesto; Qualitative Inquiry Under Fire; Searching for Yellowstone; Reading Race; Interpretive Ethnography; The Cinematic Society; The Voyeur’s Gaze; and The Alcoholic Self. He is past editor of The Sociological Quarterly, co-editor (with Yvonna S. Lincoln) of four editions of the Handbook of Qualitative Research, coeditor (with Michael D. Giardina) of eight plenary volumes from the annual Congress of Qualitative Inquiry, co-editor (with Lincoln) of the methods journal Qualitative Inquiry, founding editor of Cultural Studies/Critical Methodologies and International Review of Qualitative Research, and editor of three book series.

Yvonna S. Lincoln is Professor of Higher Education and Educational Administration at Texas A & M University. She is author, coauthor, or editor of such books as Naturalistic Inquiry and Fourth Generation Evaluation (both with Egon G. Guba), and Organizational Theory and Inquiry. Large collection of good articles.

I bought all three of the first editions of the handbook. While some of the articles appear in all three, each one also has new or different articles, so you almost have to take a look through all three of them. This is not really a handbook as much as it is a very large collection of individual articles written on the topic of qualitative research. If you are looking for a how-to book, this probably isn't the best place to start. If, on the other hand, you are looking to expand your background knowledge of the many facets of qualitative research this is a great collection to have. The book is extremely thick and heavy, almost to the point of being too big to hold up while reading, but it has a lot of worthwhile articles. I feel like the second and third editions are probably the most useful.

A compendium of qualitative research: Absolute gold!

I bumped on to this book accidentally in a library while seeking for a book on qualitative research. Being a novice in qualitative research I spend the next week reading it everyday to get my first glimps into what qualitative research is. It is absolute gold for two reasons:

- It content is topical and up todate. Even for a beginner it is absolutely readable. The content is not lost in academic jargons but simple everyday English.

- The detailed bibliography speaks for itself and what is more it is given after every section. It allows the researcher to find more information elsewhere.

I have decided that it is a book one should own in his or her private library.

About the Author
Thomas E. Benjamin has recently retired as Chair of the Department of Music Theory at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. A composer, conductor, performer, and music theorist with more than 40 compositions published and recorded, he also holds fellowships and awards from the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Michael Horvit is Professor Emeritus of Composition and Theory at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston. His works range from solo instrumental and vocal pieces to large symphonic and choral compositions and operas, all widely performed in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Israel. He has published with C.F. Peters, MorningStar, Recital Publications, Shawnee Press, E.C. Schirmer, Southern, and Transcontinental, and has CDs with the Albany label. Horvit's awards include the Martha Baird Rockefeller Award as well as the National Endowment for the Arts.

Robert S. Nelson teaches music theory and composition at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston. A composer in residence and music director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival for 17 seasons, he has also received numerous commissions for compositions and arrangements for the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

It's almost new, not like a used book at all, so worth the price! And although it's a 1st edition, it's barely any different from 2nd edition. I feel alsome!

Tom Benjamin is a marvelous musician, and this is reflected in this book. The book goes beyond simple exercises, emphasizing a complete approach to the subject, not just being able to make the right note.

Adventure, Mystery and Heartbreak

This historical fiction book is about an adventure of a young girl, about age 14 that works with the famous Sherlock Holmes, and Arsene Lupin. They uncover mysteries about their hometown and many other places. The adventures that these three characters go on are a mouthful, but a journey of fear, hope, and mystery. My favorite part is when Sherlock Holmes tells the police officers there is something about a local murder. They don’t believe him, but the thing they found is real. He shouts, “You will be needing my help later!” I love this part because I know he is going to be right, and he is going to prove them wrong. It is a very fun mystery to solve!

A great mystery!

This was a fun read for any mystery lover. My daughters and I love reading mysteries. We have read through a number of other series and this looked intriguing. I have to say that this was a great book that really had a fun story and even better, strong characters. You get to see Sherlock Holmes in a new way and better yet as a young person. My girls loved this and if you love mysteries, you will love this too.

This revised edition is written for an advanced undergraduate circuit analysis course in an applied engineering or an upper-division engineering technology curriculum. This book can also serve as a reference for engineers and technologists.

The first four chapters are devoted to time-domain considerations. Chapter 5 through 8 present transform-domain considerations. Chapter 9 deals with Fourier analysis and the concept of spectrum. Both the Fourier series and the Fourier transform are covered. Chapter 10 provides an introduction to discrete-time systems.

The Electronics Workbench™ (EWB) examples found in the last section of most chapters have been modified to work with Multisim, the newest version of EWB. The text also contains a number of MATLAB™ examples. As in the case of Multisim, coverage is optional and is not a prerequisite to other topics within the text. Appendix E provides a brief introduction to MATLAB to familiarize readers with the program the program.

As in the case of the first four editions, this fifth edition was designed for an advanced undergraduate circuit analysis course in an applied engineering curriculum or in an upper-division engineering technology curriculum. The book could also serve as a self-study reference for engineers and technologists.

The reader should be familiar, with the fundamentals of differential and integral calculus and with basic do circuit analysis techniques. It is anticipated that most readers will also be familiar with steady-state ac circuit theory. However, the latter condition is not a necessity, since a major portion of the book may be mastered without a background in ac circuits.

The first four chapters are devoted to time-domain considerations. Chapter 1 is an introduction to the general philosophy of the book. The fundamentals of waveform analysis are presented in Chapter 2. The reader should find that his or her knowledge of differentiation and integration will be strengthened after mastering this chapter, particularly in regard to graphical techniques. The voltage-current relationships for each of the basic circuit elements are explained in Chapter 3 and developed fully in Chapter 4.

The next four chapters are devoted to transform-domain considerations. Following a detailed development of the Laplace transform and inverse transform in Chapter 5, the use of transform techniques in obtaining complete circuit responses is presented in Chapter 6. In Chapter 7, the emphasis shifts to the system concepts of circuit theory. Among the topics considered are transfer functions, impedance functions, convolution, and stability. In Chapter 8, sinusoidal steady-state techniques are developed and compared with Laplace transform techniques. The frequency response concept is developed, and the use of pole-zero methods for obtaining frequency response plots is explored.

Chapter 9 deals with Fourier analysis and the concept of a spectrum. Both the Fourier series and the Fourier transform are covered.

Chapter 10 provides an introduction to discrete-time systems. Topics covered include sampled signals, the sampling theorem, difference equations, and the z-transform. This chapter represents a modern and timely supplement to the continuous-time material predominant through the remainder of the book.

Among the topics presented in the appendices are complex algebra and several proofs of transform theorems. These topics may be considered at the discretion of the instructor whenever possible.

Depending on the nature of the course and the background of the students, there is reasonable latitude available on the depth and rigor with which the material in this book can be presented. On the one hand, the derivation and formulation of the principles involved can be emphasized. On the other hand, the use of principles as tools for solving and interpreting practical problems can be emphasized, with only casual consideration of the mathematical fine points. Any suitable compromise between these limits should be possible.

Multisim and MATLAB

The circuit analysis program featured in the previous edition of the text was Electronics Workbench. This program has now evolved into a new product with the name Multisim. The result has been a continued improvement in the product. It served as the basis fir computer-aided circuit analysis in this fifth edition. The Electronics Workbench examples of the fourth edition have been modified to work with Multisim and all instructions have been modified accordingly. This coverage is optional and is not a prerequisite for other topics within the text.

Multisim continues to be one of the most widely employed Windows-based circuit analysis programs, particularly in educational institutions. Its success is based largely on the fact that it is very user-friendly and is quickly learned by computer-literate students.

The text contains several dozen Multisim examples, located near the end of each chapter. Most of these Multisim examples are based on previous chapter examples that had been analyzed earlier by standard circuit analysis methods. Thus, the reader can compare results from the two drastically different approaches. Readers with no background in Multisim should carefully study Appendix D before considering the Multisim examples in the text.

The text also contains a number of MATLAB examples. As in the case of Multisim, this coverage is optional and is not a prerequisite for other topics within the text. MATLAB examples are also located near the end of the appropriate chapters.

MATLAB is one of the most popular software packages for performing mathematical operations. It has a wide variety of capabilities, including operations in algebra, calculus, differential equations, and matrix manipulations. Some of the most useful operations that support circuit analysis will be illustrated.

Appendix E, providing a brief introduction to MATLAB, has been added for the benefit of readers who are unfamiliar with the program. Most of the programming details, however, are provided in the MATLAB examples throughout the text.

Got this used and it was in great condition. Good book on the topic, easy to read. I don't understand why these books don't give solutions to all the problems...seems to be something all text books have done from the beginning of time. That's silly.

it is the same exact book as the 5th edition except for the multisim example parts, which are few, and its about 130 dollars cheeper!!!!
