Finding a navigable route through the extensive body of tourism research studies, commentaries, interpretations, and theoretical contributions can be a daunting task for beginning students and others confronting the subject for the first time. This book is written with these readers uppermost in mind. It does not attempt to break new theoretical ground, but has the more modest aim of offering a basic and necessarily selective guide to academic studies of tourism and the main problems and issues these deal with. It does not pretend to offer a comprehensive review of the field, for such a task would obviously require several lengthy volumes.
Each chapter ends with a list of Review Questions that are meant as an aid to understanding the main points and arguments. Also included is a list of Discussion Topics suitable for small group or seminar sessions. Histamine is an important mediator of allergic diseases such as hay fever and bronchial asthma, food allergies, urticaria, and drug hypersensitivity. Knowledge of histamine as a cause of numerous non-allergic symptoms and signs is, however, limited. In fact, histamine intolerance can be responsible for conditions as diverse as seasickness, headaches and migraine, tachycardia, gastric disorders, diarrhea, intolerance to contrast media, parodontosis, period pains, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, atopic dermatitis, and osteoporosis.

This book offers wide-ranging coverage of histamine intolerance. There is extensive background discussion of the origin of histamine, its content in food and alcoholic beverages, and intolerance to red wine. Diagnosis of histamine intolerance is explained, and the various symptoms of histamine intolerance are clearly described. Subsequent chapters cover the conditions mentioned above and also consider the relation of histamine to vitamin B6 and the specific immunotherapy of allergies.

About the Author
After gaining his MD from the School of Medicine, University of Vienna, in 1970, Dr. Reinhart Jarisch undertook clinical traineeships in Denmark and the United States and postgraduate training at the Department of Dermatology, University of Vienna. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1980, and from then until 2011 was Head of the Floridsdorf Allergy Center. In 2005, he was appointed Extraordinary Professor by the University of Vienna. Dr. Jarisch has served as Head of the Committee for Clinical Allergology of the Austrian Society of Allergology and Immunology (�GAI). He is the recipient of five medical awards, including the Clemens of Pirquet Medal from �GAI for life-time achievements in allergology. Dr. Jarisch holds three patents and is the author of 139 articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as the book Histamin-Intoleranz, Histamin und Seekrankheit (Histamine Intolerance, Histamine and Seasickness), now in its third edition.

About the Author
Diana Kendall is Professor of Sociology at Baylor University, where she has been recognized as an Outstanding Professor. She has taught a variety of courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory (undergraduate and graduate), Sociology of Medicine, Sociology of Law, and Race, Class, and Gender. Previously, she enjoyed many years of teaching sociology and serving as chair of the Social and Behavioral Science Division at Austin Community College. Dr. Kendall's areas of specialization and primary research interests are sociological theory and the sociology of medicine. Her books include SOCIOLOGY IN OUR TIMES: THE ESSENTIALS (Cengage Learning, 2016), THE POWER OF GOOD DEEDS: PRIVILEGED WOMEN AND THE SOCIAL REPRODUCTION OF THE UPPER CLASS (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002), MEMBERS ONLY: ELITE CLUBS AND THE PROCESS OF EXCLUSION (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008), and FRAMING CLASS: MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS OF WEALTH AND POVERTY IN AMERICA, 2nd Edition (Rowman & Littlefield, 2012). Her most recent scholarly publication is "Class: Still Alive and Reproducing in the United States," a book chapter in PRIVILEGE: A READER, 4th Edition (2016, Westview Press). Dr. Kendall is actively involved in national and regional sociological associations, including the American Sociological Association, the Society for the Study of Social Problems, and the Southwestern Sociological Association. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was invited to membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

This text book was very simple to read and almost too easy for college. I found it boring, but class may have been part of it. Pictures were nice though!

It is an alright book. Not good renting quality from Amazon

Rented this book for a community college class, pages were very bent, pages were heavily marked with highlighter, and sticky notes were still sticking out of the book.

Overall, the book itself is okay, I cannot tell if the book itself is unorganized or if my professor teaching the class is unorganized. I think some of the subsections aren't clearly labeled so I am never sure if a subheader falls under the larger header or if it is a topic on its own.

Fantastic read. Especially for aspiring ad designers

Fantastic read. Especially for aspiring ad designers. The little details on how this massive campaign became a staple of advertising are fantastic and make for a great read. I've gotten 3 copies now to give to graphic designer friends for gifts, they've all loved this book. It breaks down each design and the process of how that particular ad and concept came to be and how it relates to pop culture or the likes relative to that time period. Very inclusive.

Best coffee table book!

I love Absolut ad's and have always wanted to get one. They are expensive new , so I got an used copy from an amazon seller. It came quickly and I flipped through the book for about 20 min when it arrived 2 days later. I love all the ads and they are all so clever. I might not get some of the modern art ones, but I love the city ones in particular. Anyway, I got this book for my new house and new coffee table book, I think it is one of the best hardcover coffee table book (marketing story book) ever.

This is a terrific book, with information about how the wonderful Absolut vodka advertising campaign began. The real strength of the book is the collection of images. In some cases, looking at an entire campaign all together takes something away from the individual ads. This is not the case for these advertisements -- taken together, they are even cooler than they were in their original magazine contexts.
I just hope they will do a second volume when there are enough new ads to justify it.
