Book 2 is better than the First 1. A-Mazing!
By Valeria
In this second installment of the series the plot thickens. We get to know some new characters, and enjoy the appearance of several mythological characters. In the first book, we learned about angels and the beginning of Christianity, but in this book we learn about mythology and most importantly, the consequences the decision to wake up the sleeping gods may entail.

This book had more action and thrill than the first one, and we can see how the story is starting to unravel.

But the ending…OMG! The Cliffhanger! I mean I need to know what happens next!

It was fun to see the relationship between the gods, demigods and angels, and the interpretation the author proposes of some well known myths, like Io’s story and the mental stability of her lineage.

But I missed Alex and Kaitlyn. I felt that they were a little left behind in this book. I would’ve really loved to see some of Alex’s points of view on the events that were developing, specially a take on some decisions he made after a conversation with his mother, and his reaction to Kaitlyn's decision.

I think my opinion is definitely biased on this one, but I really don’t like Patrick! He is a cheat, liar phony! Whilst I hate what Cole did in the first book, leaving Lexie and all, I mean that is just plain stupid! To leave the person you love in order to protect her? I mean please! Let her decide and make her own mistakes. Anyhow, even I hate his behaviour; it is really hard for me not to like him. I was rooting for him the whole book.

Edmund, on the other side, I have mixed feelings for him. I think he did not have the right to become so controlling of his kids, because he was not there for them, for any reason that was. But I do feel for him, because I can tell that was a hard decision.

It was great that this time we got two points of view to the story, Lexie’s and Cole’s. Since they weren’t in their best terms, it helped the narrative to get both points of view. I stand on what I said about Alex though; I feel his point of view is missing to complete the whole picture.

I hate to repeat myself from what I said in the review for the first book, but I experienced the same issues regarding grammar and formatting. I’m sad to admit that it bothered me A LOT. Other than that, I’m crazy about this series, the originality of the story and the approach of the author to religion is refreshing.

Finally, I stand in my opinion of this series; I can’t stop thinking of this story. I’m definitely in love.

4.5 Stars.

*Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, but my opinion was not biased in any way by this fact.

thoughts on sleeping gods
By hello-booklover
This book picks up where Lunangelique left off. Although the editing still needs some work, the second book does not disappoint when it comes to adventure and danger.

Lexi (Alexis) is picking up from a broken heart. One that was broken with good intentions but still broken. Patryck comes in to help her, what a surprise, and gets her to focus on him and getting together with him. Shocker there. in the meantime Cole is still trying to watch over Lexi and misses her. Thinking he is doing the right thing and doing whatever Edmund says to try to redeem himself so that he can be back with Lexi, he ends up having to take in Io and watch Lexi from afar get close to Patryck.

Again my favorites here are Cole and Alex. Why? They are a calming presence. Alex always trying to do what is right and practical. Cole doing what is right and trying to protect even though he is hurting inside. I love when Ollie makes a appearance as well. That is great because it shows Cole's nature of forgiveness and redemption.

So the story Alex, Lexi, Patryck (grrr) and Alex's girlfriend head off to Europe for the summer. Edmund has orchestrated Lexi's future through her art and she is going to Yale in the fall and her brother is off to Harvard but before that they are off to Europe for a vacay and to awaken their mother and the other gods. Bad idea bad bad idea. Even Persephone agrees it is not a good idea. Anywhoo, the adventure begin in Italy. Here we see everyone show up. Ollie, Edmund, Cole (yay), Io, Hercules, the whole gang. Why? Alex and Lexi of course. Lexi is as hotheaded as even and to lash out at Cole she is with Patryck. Patryck is okay with this because, even though he has cheated on Lexi, he has feelings for her and also wants to make Cole suffer. Cole wants Lexi and will do what he needs to to be with her. As they navigate the rough patches of love, Lexi gets taken by Persephone and she finds out things she didn't know before. All the while, Ollie's old crew is in town and after her as well. They grab her and Cole and Alex and boy is that not a good time. Alex and Cole suffer immensely but Helios shows and has a chat with Lexi. Did she listen? Nope of course not. What she did find out though on this trip is that the angels would rather die than live. All except Cole who enjoys life. This has Lexi think twice about Patryck yeah.

The end has them racing to Latmos to free the gods. Fights ensue but right before that Cole (le sigh) declares his undying love for Lexi. Love Cole. That boy would do anything for that girl. As the fighting goes on outside, Lexi and Alex are inside awakening the gods. All good deeds though do not go unpunished and Zeus truly is a horndog.

Great Book 2 in Paranormal Trilogy
By Lisa S, The Reading Room
Four out of Five Fangs

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock!

Sleeping Gods picks up months after renegade angel Cole abandons his great love Lexi in Lunangelique, the newly identified offspring of Moon Goddess Selene and warrior angel Edmund. Cole’s desertion coupled with the pressure of fulfilling the prophecy of awakening the sleeping ancient Gods trapped by Sun God Helios, crush Lexi and make her a ghost of her former self.

“With every second that goes by, my anger and hurt for Cole leaving me turns into hate. I hate that he was a coward, I hate that it was so easy for him to leave me, I hate that he let my father drive him away, I hate that he has not once tried to contact me, I hate that he hurt me.”

As Lexi turns to angel Patryck for comfort and support on her quest she doesn’t realize Cole is watching from the shadows. Cole left with the idea of protecting Lexi from the taint of his past but watching her slowly fall for Patryck drives him to the brink of insanity. When Cole reinserts himself in Lexi’s life and journey to awaken the God’s, she all but screams her displeasure.

“Man, does it suck when someone you love everything about, hates something about you.”

Sleeping Gods is an exciting and adventurous follow-up to Lunangelique. Author Kristin Campbell does a great job of balancing Lexi and crew’s epic quest to release the Gods with the mandatory angsty YA love triangle. Lexi’s heartbreak and Cole’s desperation give the two characters a little harder edge that match the sense of urgency in finding Lexi’s Goddess mother Selene and the other Gods locked away from the rest of the world. The introduction of new demi-gods and other ancient legends add new life to the story and getting both Lexi and Cole’s POV’s made the story richer.

The one tiny complaint I have involves a member of the Lexi-Patryck-Cole love triangle. We as readers get to know fairly quickly in the story that one member of the triangle is a bad person with bad intentions. Lexi stays oblivious for the majority of the story. With her new Goddess/Angel powers she cannot tell she’s being lied to. Her super powerful Angel father and God/Angel brother cannot tell she’s being lied to. Only the other member of the triangle knows and he says nothing. I actually caught myself yelling at my Kindle “Just tell her already!”

Overall Sleeping Gods is a great story full of energy, interesting lore, and well developed characters. I really enjoyed it and thought it was a great next step in the Lunangelique trilogy.
