Racist Literature in Nursing

Don't let the cover fool you, this book is racist! Most African-Americans do not speak Vernacular English, also known as Ebonics. Maybe the few the author has encountered in her life do, but I bet they'd catch all her typos in this literature. Her statement is inaccurate and stereotyped. In case you are confused, there isn't a language line at the hospital for the national language of "African Americans". I couldn't help but notice that her talk on the LGBT community came from a victimized point of view, referring to senior "members" as poor because of job discrimination. But no such mention of that towards the minority "members" who live through discrimination from birth to death, with no choice to accept or deny their "membership" into this group. I also noticed that in educating the reader of typical characteristics of racial groups, there wasn't a section dedicated to the whites that took the land from the American Indians and brought these Ebonic speaking Africans over to the great USA by force and made them slaves. Talk about discrimination! So my multiracial mind has no choice but to think very lowly of this author. I hope she comes to the light and sees the truth behind her own biases. I will be throwing this paper weight in the trash at the end of the semester.

Fun Story

Veterinary student Naomi Price has a very clear plan for her life, finish veterinary school while avoiding anything that could bring financial ruin to her life. In her mind, love is the first step to the end of everything she has worked so hard to achieve.

Luka Petrovich is a dominant with a serious confidence problem. After a disastrous breakup with his stalker fianc� he has decided to take himself off the market. That is until he falls for Naomi, his sexy dog sitter. After a single sexual encounter with Luka, Naomi’s life disaster radar goes on high alert and she escapes to Las Vegas before she can fall even harder for Luka.

Once in Vegas, Naomi is given a surprise night out at The Carnivore Club, Las Vegas’ newest and most exclusive BDSM club. She is to be paired with a dominant that most matches her kink compatibility. Luka is also forced by friends to attend the same club for a one night stand with a sub that is most compatible with his kinks. Both Luka and Naomi intend to bow out of the match, until they realize who their perfect match actually is.

The characters in this one, especially the female characters, made for a really fun story. The Carnivore Club’s pint sized, submissive dungeon monitor was an absolute original and really made the story. I hope she gets her own book one day. The relationship between Naomi and Luka developed at a nice pace, with a few sizzling scenes. The BDSM was light, but still realistic and complimented the story well. I rated this one a solid 4 stars.

Runaway sub and the Dom that wants her so bad

If you want to read a quick story to get you all hot and bothered, then this one is for you! Naomi is a student working her way through veterinary school with different jobs such as being a dog sitter. After crushing on one of her client's owners for years, Naomi has one hot experience with the owner, Luka, which she deems was a mistake. A mistake so big in her eyses that she decides to drop Luka as a client and escape to Vegas to relax and sort through how she feels about the man she cannot get off her mind.

While on a work/vacation getaway, Luka's friends decide to forcefully help him get over his crazy ex-girlfriend by putting him back on the BDSM scene. Reluctantly he goes to a hot new club in Vegas, only to find that the girl he has been paired up with as his perfect one-night-stand match is none other than the runaway dog sitter, Naomi.

From here I have to keep my lips sealed, because it is too delish to divulge. This was a great read and I enjoyed reading more into the BDSM world and the sparks that fly between Naomi and Luka. I wish there would have been a little more background discussed about their one-night-stand and of course that it would have been longer (that's what she said). I think the extra background would have helped support the story better as to why Naomi feels she needs to runaway from Luka. Will definitely add Tara Quan to my list of authors that I follow!!

This story starts out with a devilishly handsome dom and his dog sitter Naomi. After getting out of a terrible engagement to a fake stuck up woman that couldn't stand his need to dominate, he had his eyes on Naomi. Both of there needs got the best of them leading to sex. Naomi was falling for him, and couldn't let this keep going so she lied and said it would never work as she's not a submissive. In the mean time her friends both in the bdsm lifestyle decide to give her a much needed gift to Vegas to a new established bondage club. Naomi having a few lies on Luka needs to get away from him , and needs to enjoy this time. The club requests each dom and sub to fill out a card for a one night stand with the most compatible other. Luka has his own business going on in Vegas, and his lawyer , and friend decides this is what Luka needs to get out of this slump he's in. He wanted Naomi to submit to him more then anything, and was so disappointed she couldn't be what he needed her to be...Little does he know that Naomi is exactly what he needs, and payback for those lies comes back to bite her in the rear . I love Tara Quans writing style, this is a fun little read that definitely has its hot moments. I received this arc from the author, in return of an honest review.

COOKING SLOW MEANS COOKING WITH FLAVOR

I like to cook but am not an amateur chef. Still, I like to cook. So when I find a cookbook that looks interesting, I at least consider acquiring it. Thus this book, which I bought in anticipation of cooking for Christmas 2013. To date (February 5, 2014), I have tried four recipes and loved them all. I have several others lined up to try soon. It is tricky to predict success solely on the basis of success with a sampling of a cookbook's recipes but the omens are good.

I made posole, a Mexican stew containing pork shoulder cubes, lots of shrimp, hominy, peppers, onions, garlic, and tomatoes. It cooked in the oven at 200 degrees for six hours and it was exquisite! -subtle yet earthy, a bonanza of good tastes that, because of the slow low temperature cooking, still were distinct. I've made the posole twice now, once for us, once for guests, and both times it has been a hit. The first time, I substituted garbanzo beans for hominy, and it tastes fine. The second time I used the traditional hominy (posole).

I have also prepared prime rib and mac and cheese using this book, and they were both better than I have achieved using other methods -a lot better. The mac and cheese was amazing. After hours of slow cooking in the oven, the kitchen smells heavenly and the taste is wonderful. It was even better than my wife's time honored recipe. I think she's going to convert to new techniques the next time she makes hers.

The author's comments throughout this book make sense -about the effects of temperature and moisture on the end product, about c0ooking in general. They resonate with me on several levels and by now I'm not a novice. The book is intelligently laid out, with attractive visual presentations of dishes, well explained recipes and intelligent sidebars on variant recipes and other matters.

I have a list of recipes yet to try. It includes a cheesecake that cooks in the oven overnight for eight to ten hours at 175 degrees and ends up, so the book says, creamy even at the edge, never cracked and never dry because never over-baked. There are carrots slow baked on top of coffee beans (three hours at 225 degrees), a turkey chili that looks to die for (eight hours at 200 degrees), a duck ragu with cherries over fettucine (the ragu cooks in the oven for seven hours at 250 degrees), borscht (6-1/2 hours, on the counter top at the lowest possible simmer), and fettucine with lamb Bolognese (250 degrees in an oven for six hours).

I will be using this book for a long, long time --and for good reason. Because cooking slowly makes sense: both in terms of the nutrients saved and the flavors amplified and made more intense and savory.

Mr. Schloss writes good books. In this one, he discusses the topic of slow cooking clearly and offers some excellent recipes. He makes a distinction between slow cooking and cooking in a slow cooker. Having done that, he provides guidelines for using a slow cooker to approximate the outcomes of stove-top or oven slow cooking and offers suggestions for converting some of his slow cooking recipes to slow cooker recipes.

put them in and leave them - my only problem is they take longer than
the 6 hours so no one knows when twe are going to eat - but if youre not on a timetable
then they are great.

The Book Doctors Recommend Most

This is the ideal book for the beginner and in my opinion a must-read. In the excellent translation by Robert O. Gould, "Crystal Structure Determination" by Werner Massa explains all the basics from symmetry in real and reciprocal space, over generation of X-rays and other practical aspects, all the way to structure solution and refinement. Massa keeps the book simple and understandable and uses mathematical formulae carefully and only when helpful or necessary.

I learned the basics of crystallography from the German original of "the Massa". Now that I am a teacher of crystallography myself, this is the book I recommend to my students.

I found this book good for reference or to review concepts in crystallography. You need at least to have previous knowledge in the basic concepts to understand it. The book goes right to the point, explanations are short but clear. It is an excellent summary of the theoretical details to remember when solving an structure.

Library book worth buying for keeps

I am currently using the library's copy of this text and am buying it since it has been such a good resource. The chapters are in evening-sized portions, it's highly readable, and while there are pieces I would organize differently, sections are presented in an order that flows and makes good sense. Some information about the instrumentation may be out of date (not the theory behind it, of course, but details of its execution) and this is worth keeping in mind. I tend to read this text as my first dive into any topic and supplement with multiple other resources. My class also uses Stout and Jensen for assigned readings and I also go online and pull up all sorts of diagrams, tables, PDFs and powerpoints that give me a better understanding of, for example, the Ewald construction than Massa's very short description gave me. In other words, Massa's text is a really excellent way to get comfortable with a topic, but it must be supplemented. I do find it easier to read the same chapters of other texts after getting an introduction from Massa, and for me, at least, that acclimation process saves a lot of time.

Precise and to the point. Finally a great intro to the value of Whole Life Insurance.

Clear and concise. Finally a summary that gives you a basis to start your understanding of the true value Whole Life Insurance and what it brings to your financial table. If you can get over the propaganda that has been pumped into your head for years and come to the realzation that you need to take control of your financial life, then ths will be a good read. Seek out someone who truly understands this to advise you and you will be far ahead of the crowd who will look back later and try to figure out what happened to their financial security.

excellent view of Whole Life as an asset

Like the author says many financial houses don't what you to understand what is written in this book, because they have a vested interest in IRAs and 401Ks. However the author rightly points out that life insurance has nearly no chance of loss, and will always give a positive return. When dealing with a large insurer that's is more than 100 years old, it has weathered and survived all manner of depressions and recessions. The best part of a policy is that you can tap into the policy as needed or take a loan out on the policy - many times continuing to earn dividend while repaying the loan, like the author states you become your own banker. This book is very much recommended to understand how Whole Life's cash value can be utilized for far more than just a death benefit to pass onto ones heirs.

Big media heads have severely hurt millions of people by giving life insurance products a bad reputation. I am a completely unbiased advisor who uses the markets as well as insurance products with my clients. In this book Jake does an excellent job of simplifying what took me 3 years to perfect as an advisor, into a short 70 page gem. This book will help the everyday person to understand how valuable and truly life changing properly structured life insurance contracts can be as not only a retirement asset, but used as a personal source of financing.
