Provides Focus for Learning German Vocabulary

Every teacher of the German language whose native language is English should have this vocabulary guide. It provides essential data on how often German words occur, which can help prioritize learning when time is short. I have found it motivates learning to know the most commonly used words. I use it in conjunction with a good German/English dictionary.

I'm finding this dictionary of frequency very useful for making flashcards to increase my vocabulary. While there are frequency lists online, the ones I've found don't usually take the time to eliminate all the different forms of a given word. They also don't give example sentences like this book does.

TO FIND MERIT, READ BETWEEN THE LINES

This book is by far the most opinionated, liberally biased, and at some points, outright disrespectful course book I have read. See almost any commentary on Justice Scalia's opinions. For the most part, the authors bury their obstinate opinions in the form of loaded questions after the fact--the most blatant example being in their commentary on "United Steelworkers of America et al. v. Brian Weber." However, if you are able to push through those failures and get a solid, unbiased view of the actual argument, then the book will provide you with a very strong understanding of the relationships between courts, agencies, legislators, and executives; the political processes that effect legal interpretation and construction; and the evolution of the court when it comes to these issues. I applaud the authors, in this respect.

A Scholarly and Academic Volume

This book is a researched study by an excellent professional historian, Charles Downer Hazen. It looks at the published writings of prominent Americans regarding their opinions toward what was happening in France before and during the Revolution. Of particular interest is the writing of Thomas Jefferson, who traveled widely in France and recorded social conditions before the actual out break of Revolution. The most important insight that I was able to gain from reading is the difference in the Constitutional structures of the two nations. Whereas the US government was already established and working at the time , the French chose not to emulate the American system of checks and balance ie a two house congress and a separate executive and judicial body. By not separating the Powers, the new French Republic was doomed to failure and deteriorated into tyranny and violence. Other well known and not so well known political thinkers are featured. This book is not a novel, nor fiction and its appeal is to students, or those like myself, who are not historians but consumers of fine historical writings.

About the Author

Jim Stone is an Associate Professor of Photography at the University of New Mexico. His photographs have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art and The Smithsonian American Art Museum, among many others.�Books of his work include Stranger Than Fiction (Light Work, 1993),Historiostomy (Piltdown Press, 2001), and Why My Pictures are Good (Nazraeli Press, 2005).

He has also published six higher education titles that are widely used in university courses: A User�s Guide to the View Camera, Darkroom Dynamics, Photography, Photography: The Essential Way, A Short Course in Photography, and A Short Course in Digital Photography.

Great Versatility

As a student i would love to save money where I can and this book is one spot where you can save some money. You could imagine my disappointment when a classmate said they got an earlier edition and paid less than a dollar for it. This edition of the book incorporates both film and digital cameras. If i were a photo major instead of a cinema major this is basically two books for two different classes. Do keep in mind this book is more focused on the film camera and the digital cameras are more of an extra but many of the topics in the digital version of this book "A Short Course in Digital Photography." If you are only planning to take a film course in photography then you can get a much cheaper version of this book since film has not changed in years, but if you want versatility and the option to take the digital course with the same book or just want to learn more about digital then you should get this book and save money.

This is a good book for both film cameras as well as digital cameras. If you are a beginner it is not the book for you, you need to know a little about photography first. I had to get this book for a college class that I was taking and I have only opened the book once, I have found more information online about my camera and its features.

Got this for a photography class. It has a lot of information but we never had to use the book much for class so I never have taken the time to look through it much. What I have seen in it though is very useful, explaining simple techniques and showing examples. It's easy to understand and isn't too crazy hard to figure things out.
